Research Press Publishers proudly marks its 55th anniversary in 2025, celebrating over half a century of publishing impactful, evidence-based behavioral resources for counselors, psychologists, educators, and social workers.
Founded in 1970 by Robert W. Parkinson, Research Press was built on a simple yet profound mission: to “help the helpers.” From its first publication, Living with Children, which is still in print today, Research Press has focused on providing tools that empower those working to improve the lives of children, families, and communities.
The landscape of childhood and adolescence has changed dramatically over the past five decades. As children face unprecedented challenges, both in their inner and outer worlds, Research Press is dedicated to meeting their needs by supporting those who guide them.
“Children, from their first breath onward, remind us that we have challenges before us when it comes to compassionate communication. We must help them understand our world while realizing we will soon be living in theirs,” said Judy Parkinson, President and CEO of Research Press and daughter of founder Bob Parkinson.
From the start, Research Press’ team of visionary authors and collaborators has helped make the company’s catalog essential for generations of professionals, and has been widely recognized and adopted worldwide.
“What happens to the world depends on what happens to my child,” wrote Bob Parkinson. That sentiment, attributed to a parent, still guides the company today.
As Research Press looks to the future, the focus remains clear: to continue offering the tools, insights, and support that professionals need to make lasting, positive impacts affecting the lives of children and those who serve them.
We are honored to walk alongside our counseling community and are humbled by the knowledge that the right words in the right hands can change lives.
