Research Press Author Mark Swerdlik Receives NASP Lifetime Achievement Award

The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) recently named Research Press author Dr. Mark E. Swerdlik the recipient of the NASP Lifetime Achievement Award for 2014.

Dr. Swerdlik is a professor and coordinator of the school psychology program in the Department of Psychology at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. A Nationally Certified School Psychologist, he led efforts to establish the statewide APPIC/APA-accredited Illinois School Psychology Consortium, which has provided internship placements for 174 school psychology students nationwide.

The NASP Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a school psychologist who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of the profession of school psychology throughout his or her career. Award recipients help to shape and improve knowledge of the best practices in school psychological services; promote and expand understanding of the role of school psychologists and effective services for children and youth; uphold the highest professional standards of practice, training, and research; and participate in the leadership, governance, and continuing development of the profession.

The announcement of Dr. Swerdlik’s selection was made at the 2014 NASP annual conference held in Washington, DC, and was also noted in the May 2014 edition of Communiqué.
