A standardized direct observational coding instrument that employs technican-level observers to collect objective data. The SRIC provides a continuous time- and situation-specific data base on psychosocial activities of clinical staff -- the nature, amount, content, and distribution of verbal and nonverbal interactions that staff provide to clients. The resulting data provide comparable information on individual staff and groups for concurrent monitoring of both planned and unplanned psychosocial interventions. The data also yield information on which to base decisions regarding staff training, development, and utilization.
